Today I decided to brave the rain and fog and go for a wander up Mount Wellington. I've been wanting to do the Zig Zag Track for a long time, starting at the Springs and ending at the Summit, then returning down the Icehouse Loop. It’s a challenging uphill walk but very rewarding.
The weather turned nasty when hitting the Summit with fierce winds and catapulting ice so I had to try and get back to the car ASAP unfortunately that meant no ice house track today.
Pinnacle road is a 1 hour and 30 minute walk from Summit back to the Springs and about 7.5km so I took this route.
I got 2km down pinnacle road where a lovely lady pulled up and told me to jump in...this wasn't a hard decision on a day like today, so I travelled back to my car in style.
The Ice House track will have to be left for another day.
DIRECTIONS:
- Park at the Springs and then walk up to the left until you hit the sign saying Zig Zag Track.
- Follow this along until an open clearing.
- Veer right on Pinnacle road for 10 metres then on the left continue back onto Zig Zag track.
OTHER:
- Track is quite steep and rocky so wear sturdy shoes.
